Planning

How much should you spend to get one client?

This page is not selling you anything. It is just simple maths. Work out your budget first, so you know what you are doing before you start.

01The rule

Spend 20% of your price on finding the next client.

Pick the price you will charge to build one website. Take 20% of it. That is your budget. That is the whole rule.

Say your price is ₹5,000. 20% of ₹5,000 is ₹1,000. That ₹1,000 reaches about 200 businesses. If only 1 of those 200 says yes, you earned ₹5,000 and spent ₹1,000. You are ₹4,000 up. The other 199 cost you nothing extra, whether they reply or not.

₹5,000₹1,000~200₹4,000

This is with only 1 client out of 200. Anything more than that is extra.

02Why 20%

Why 20%, and not more?

It is a cost, not a gamble.

Every business spends some money to find customers. Shops do it. Big companies do it. 20% is a normal amount. So this is a cost of doing the work, not a bet.

A quiet batch will not break you.

If nobody replies, you lost 20% of one project. That stings a little. It does not stop you. You can try again next month.

The other 80% stays with you.

You are not spending your income. You are spending a small slice of it. The rest is money you already earned and get to keep.

03How to run it

Five things to do, in this order.

  1. 01

    Fix your price first

Everything starts here. Pick the price you will actually say to a client, not the price you wish for.

  2. 02

Take 20% of it. Stop there.

Not half. Not all of it. 20% is what keeps you safe when a batch goes quiet.

  3. 03

    Send the whole batch

Do not stop in the middle. 20 messages tell you nothing. A full batch tells you if your price and your message are working.

  4. 04

In week one, count replies, not sales

Replies come first. If businesses are writing back, your start is fine. The rest is just talking to them properly.

  5. 05

When someone pays you, take 20% out again

Do it before the money goes somewhere else. This is how one client turns into a habit instead of a lucky month.

Fix your number first. After that, you just run it.

If this plan looks right to you, the batch prices are on the pricing section. If it does not look right, change your price - not the plan.
